This year, the agrochem industry joined the rest of the world in marking the World Food Safety Day on Tuesday 7 June 2022; the theme was ‘Safer food, better health’. AAK has been at the forefront of creating awareness on the importance of producing safe food for Kenya’s growing population. Food is considered safe when it is free from microbial and chemical contaminants which can be introduced during production or post-harvest. Maximum Residue Levels ( MRL’s) are the maximum allowable levels of pesticides which can be found in food after application of pesticides. They are determined in a scientific way during development of products and are guided by the World Health Organization. Pesticides are usually degraded in the crop and very low levels of residues below the MRL are proven to pose no danger to human health.
