aak-GROW Q3 Report 2024

To the Last Mile: As part of aak-GROW’s commitment to sustainable agriculture, we’re taking our Stewardship Mashinani program to the fields, meeting farmers where they are. This on-the-ground initiative emphasizes training and engaging farmers directly, ensuring they understand the critical role they play in food safety and security simply by handling pest control products responsibly.

aak-GROW Activity Report October – December 2023

From October 28th to November 3rd, 2023, Ms. Emily Rees, President and CEO of CropLife International, undertook a visit to Kenya. Her significant participation included being a keynote speaker at the African Congress on Agricultural Technologies (ACAT) held on October 30th and 31st, 2023, at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The pest control industry in Kenya seeks a sustainable transition while managing the risks associated with the process. It acknowledges the unique challenges posed by pest diversity, food security concerns, and regional differences. They emphasize the need for technical and resource support, as well as addressing regulatory maturity differences and knowledge gaps among countries.

aak-GROW Half Year Activity Report February – June 2024

In support of the 30% national tree cover by 2032, aak-GROW alongside other organisations participated in this year’s Forest Challenge Tree Planting event held at Kinale Forest, Kiambu County where 5000 trees were planted. The event is an extension of the annual ‘Forest Challenge’ organized by Kenya Forest Service, East African Wildlife Society and Kijabe Environment Volunteers that brings together sponsors of the previous year’s event to a tree planting exercise.

aak-GROW Activity Report April to June 2022

This year, the agrochem industry joined the rest of the world in marking the World Food Safety Day on Tuesday 7 June 2022; the theme was ‘Safer food, better health’. AAK has been at the forefront of creating awareness on the importance of producing safe food for Kenya’s growing population. Food is considered safe when it is free from microbial and chemical contaminants which can be introduced during production or post-harvest. Maximum Residue Levels ( MRL’s) are the maximum allowable levels of pesticides which can be found in food after application of pesticides. They are determined in a scientific way during development of products and are guided by the World Health Organization. Pesticides are usually degraded in the crop and very low levels of residues below the MRL are proven to pose no danger to human health.

Safety Week Achievement Report

As part of our awareness campaigns on the responsible use of crop protection products, aak-GROWheld an industry pesticide safety awareness week on the week of 6th to 10th June 2022 which was   commemorated in Meru County – Kaguru ATC.  The Safety Week theme dubbed  “Safer food, better health” served as a platform for public sensitization on the importance of genuine Pest Control Products in production as well all the need for adhering to the label recommendations given by manufacturers and approved by Pest Control Products Board.

aak-GROW Croplife January to March 2022 Activity Report

After holding virtual AGMs in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 restrictions that included social distancing, on March 25, 2022 the Agrochemicals Association of Kenya/CropLife Kenya (AAK/CLK) was able to hold its 63rd physical Annual General Meeting at the Serena Hotel Nairobi, as per the requirements of Registrar of Societies. This was later followed by a networking event which brought together members and stakeholders for a relaxed evening.

aak-GROW Activities Report Jan – April 2020

aak-GROW in collaboration with the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) organized a 5-day farmers training in 5 different schemes of Baringo County. The training was held between 9thMonday to 13th Friday of March 2020.

The main objective of the training was to sensitize the farmers on the Responsible and Safe Use of Pesticides in the schemes

aak-GROW Report Aug – Dec 2020

aak-GROW held its 61st Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the year ended 31st December 2019. During the AGM the association made amendments to its Constitution to include a virtual -Hybrid General/Special meetings whenever required.
